Cuba Research Project
Cuba Research Project is a searchable archive of Cuban genealogical and demographic records. It gathers civil registrations, parish books, cemetery and burial registers, censuses and electoral rolls, school lists and military service files that were scattered across archives in Cuba, Spain and the United States, transcribes them, and indexes every person named in them. The site is published in English and Spanish; the Spanish site lives under /es and carries the same records, pages and features.
Search the archive
Every indexed person can be found by given name, paternal surname, maternal surname, place, collection, record type, event year, birth year or death year. Birth and death years are filterable independently of the record's primary event, so a person can be found by any date that was written down about them. Start at /search, or browse the collections one by one at /all-databases/.
Family trees and transcription
Members can build a family tree or import a GEDCOM, and the archive suggests records that match the people in it. A transcription tool reads handwritten Spanish documents and explains the archaic terms and abbreviations that appear in Cuban civil and parish records.
For automated readers
The whole index is readable over a public REST API that needs no key. Any page here is also served as Markdown to a request that sends Accept: text/markdown.
