Information about Matanzas society collected from Diario de la Marina newspaper
Tens of thousands of data points: marriages, deaths, family relationships, etc., mainly concerning the province of Matanzas, Cuba. This information was collected and compiled by Lydia E. Reyes from the section "Matanceras" in Cuba's longest running newspaper "Diario de la Marina."

Information from Lydia E. Reyes:
This compilation is from the Diario de La Marina, in the "Matanceras" section, which was published daily and was written by Manolo Jarquín from 1921 until his death in January 1954. It was then continued by Juan J. Alberti until the last newspaper was published on May 12, 1960.
Not all years are included, only those available at the University of Florida and in the Biblioteca Virtual de Prensa Histórica.
The information copied from the Matanzas chronicles may contain errors, for example, in one paragraph a name may be written one way and in another paragraph it may be spelled differently. Despite the potential for errors, I still recognize that much of the information is correct.
Dates of birth, death, and marriage should be used as reference points and not as exact dates, although they may be accurate. During those times, information reached Havana with delays, and when they referred to "yesterday" or "this morning," it's possible that the date was one or two days off from the actual date. That being said, I hope you find the information useful.
