The data comes from the 1885 Florida State Census. This mortality schedule listed everyone who died in 1885 in Monroe County, Florida, apparently all in the city of Key West.
Only individuals whose birthplace, or at least one parent's birthplace, is listed as Cuba have been copied here.
Waves of Cuban exiles and émigrés moved to Key West after the Ten Years' War (1868 to 1878), and the city became a hub for revolutionary activity in Cuba's fight for independence from Spain.
