Civil Registry Records of Samá, Holguin (1898-1900)

The Cuba Research Project thanks William Navarrete for sharing this list, which he copied himself. Navarrete is a French novelist, journalist, essayist, poet, and art critic.

According to Navarrete on his blog: "Although the Civil Registry was transferred to Banes as soon as the republican period began, the first birth registration book in the area bears the name of Samá because during the last decade of 1890-1900 this town was more important than Banes."

He continues: "The people registered in both volumes were born before 1900. Remember that at that time many were registered some time after their birth, depending on the moment in which the Civil Registry was instituted for each locality. That is why, sometimes, two or even more brothers appear one after the other in the same book. Of course, the actual birth year for each registrant appeared on the document."
