Database of 239 Korean Laborers Who Immigrated to Cuba in 1921

This database contains the names of 239 of the 288 Koreans who traveled from Mexico to Cuba to work in the henequen fields in the province of Matanzas in 1921. This migration marked the first significant settlement of Koreans in Cuba.

This list was sourced from a 2003 thesis by Gum-Young Ah submitted to Sun Moon University in South Korea. The referenced list is attached at the end of the thesis. A copy of the translated thesis (to Spanish) has been provided here as well as the text in the original Korean language.

We recommend you consult the thesis for more in-depth information about this pivotal event in the history of Koreans in Cuba: (Spanish) (Korean)
